Mini Longhair Dachshunds
Blue Bow Kennels
Where are you located?
We are located in East Alabama in the Auburn-Opelika area. We are approximately 100 miles from the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta and 115 miles from the Shuttlesworth International Airport in Birmingham.
Why are you called Blue Bow Kennels?
We just love the color blue! It's pretty fitting too! As a boy mom(times 3), I just can't escape that beautiful pastel, baby-blue shade. Don't worry though, here at Blue Bow Kennels, we have pink bows too!
How do I reserve a puppy?
To reserve a puppy a $500 non-refundable deposit must be paid. The balance is due in full at the time of pick-up.
Are your dogs registered?
Yes, all of our dogs are registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC). Parent pedigrees are available upon request. All puppies come with paperwork that allows the new owner(s) to register their new pet with the AKC. We do not grant breeding rights with these registrations.
When may I pick up my new puppy?
Puppies are ready for their new homes between nine and ten weeks of age. No puppies may leave sooner than eight weeks of age.
Do you offer a health guarantee on your puppies?
Yes, we offer a one year health guarantee against all life-threatening congenital diseases. It is important to note that all Dachshunds are at an increased risk for Intervertebral Disk Disease and therefore it is excluded from our health guarantee. IVDD typically appears after several years of life. Color Dilution Alopecia is also excluded from our health guarantee. Diluted coats include those characterized as blue, Isabella, silver(UK), etc. If you select a puppy with a diluted coat, we will go over this with you in greater detail and provide you with additional resources regarding this condition. None of our dogs have IVDD or CDA, but as a responsible breeder we cannot guarantee that puppies will be free from either of these issues. Please see our Buyer Contract for more information about our health guarantee.
Do you test the health of your dogs?
Yes, our sires and dams are genetically evaluated with the Embark for Breeders test. It tests the DNA of each dog for over 250 different genetic health diseases and provides valuable trait information to breeders regarding the alleles that each dog carries, including those that may be hidden. The results of these tests are available if requested. It is important to note that most test results for purebred Dachshunds will note an increased risk for Intervertebral Disk Disease, or IVDD. This is expected and not considered to be an abnormal finding. It in no way implies that a dog will develop IVDD. We also participate in the Canine Health Information Center Program. Our dogs undergo breed-specific testing as recommended by the Dachshund Club of America as they reach the appropriate ages. Those results are then reported to the CHIC.
Are your puppies well- socialized prior to leaving?
Yes, our puppies live inside our family home where three active boys and two adults interact with them daily once they are old enough to be handled. From birth, they are exposed to the typical sounds and activities found inside a home.
May I select my puppy in-person?
At this time we do not allow home visits apart from the day of pick-up. We are happy to provide extra photos, videos, facetime calls, and temperament descriptions to help buyers pick the perfect puppy.
What records will I receive with my new puppy?
All records pertaining to your puppy will be provided at pick-up. Documentation of all shots and wormings, as well as a clean bill of health from our veterinarian will be provided. In addition to records, all puppies go home wearing one of our signature pink or blue bows and with a Blue Bow Kennels puppy pack full of our favorite things. .
Can you guarantee the future size, weight, color, confirmation, or temperament of your puppies?
While we do offer a health guarantee, there is no way to guarantee certain physical attributes or dispositions. For example, it is entirely possibly for two mini Dachshunds to produce a puppy that grows to be what many call a "tween" or even standard-sized dog. It is rare, but does happen. Eye color and coat colors can also change considerably from birth. We will always give you our honest opinions about what we think your adult dog will look like, but it will only be an educated guess. Please be cautious of any breeder who makes promises about the the future appearances or personalities of puppies.
Why are some of your puppies more expensive than others?
Many considerations go into the pricing of our puppies. Our puppies range from $2000 to $4000. Factors such as pedigree, coat length(we currently only offer longhair), in-demand coat patterns and colors, and even sex can affect the pricing.
